Reverend Deacon Martyn Swaby Nottingham, UK Death: Reverend Deacon Martyn Swaby Dies Suddenly, Deeply Mourned by Parish Community

It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of the sudden passing of Reverend Deacon Martyn Swaby on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Since his ordination to the Diaconate on May 12, 2013, Martyn served our parishes of Holy Cross and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour with unwavering dedication, faith, and compassion. His loss will be profoundly felt across our entire community.

Throughout his years of ministry, and in his role as a Mental Health Chaplain with the NHS, Deacon Martyn touched countless lives. He faithfully celebrated many important moments in the life of our parish—baptizing children, witnessing marriages, and conducting funerals with dignity and care. He also played a vital role in leading sacramental programs, guiding individuals and families in their faith journeys.

Martyn will be especially remembered for founding the “Mind to be Merciful” Café, a place of welcome, comfort, and support for so many. His commitment to both spiritual and emotional care reflected the depth of his compassion and his desire to serve others wholeheartedly.

Before his ordination, Martyn was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady’s and gave generously of his time as a school governor and Chair of Governors. His regular presence at the school and his support for its community left a lasting impact.

Known for his warm kindness and gentle, often playful sense of humor, Martyn brought light and encouragement to those around him. On a personal note, I am deeply grateful for his support and friendship, especially during times of illness. His presence, wisdom, and conversation will be greatly missed.

We entrust Martyn to the loving mercy of God and ask you to keep his wife, Toni, his children Jack and Emma, Emma’s fiancé Anthony, and all his family in your prayers. May his kind and faithful soul rest in peace.
