Samantha Jo Hoopingarner, age 41, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Hobart, Indiana. She was born on November 30, 1984, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Howard and Betty (Purcell) Hoopingarner.
Samantha is survived by her loving parents, Howard and Betty Hoopingarner; her children, Sophia Barrientes, Luca Barrientes, Ava Barrientes, and Asa Barrientes; her brothers, Philip (Elizabeth Vale) Hoopingarner and Charles Hoopingarner; her sister, Dee Dee (John) Nunez; and her niece, Rachelle Cummings. She is also survived by her companion, Dante Bily, and her beloved dog, Minnie.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vivian and Burl Purcell and Freeda and Levi Medley; her brother, Kurtis Hoopingarner; her sister, Brandie Furlong; and her aunts, Linda Haney, LaDonna Collins, and Nancy Harris; as well as her uncles, Thomas Hoopingarner, Scott Medley, and David Hoopingarner.
Samantha will be remembered for her vibrant personality, creativity, and deep love for those around her. She found joy in painting, music, and journaling, often expressing herself through art and words. She was known for her nurturing heart, her quick wit, and her ability to make others feel welcome. Samantha truly never met a stranger, and she had a gift for forming meaningful connections wherever she went.
Family was at the center of her life. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and she loved her children with unwavering devotion. She also shared a special bond with her dog, Minnie, whom she often took on long walks in nature. The Fourth of July was her favorite holiday, a time she especially looked forward to celebrating with joy and enthusiasm.
Samantha will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel. Burial will follow at Heritage Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
